Supporting nsyilxcn in community.
tiʔ kʷu tiʔ x̌ilx Indigenous Association was co-founded by Krista Lindley and Hailey Causton. An effort in meeting the needs for families and community by building connection and a sense of belonging through language and culture.
It was recognized that there was a barrier for parents of young children in gaining access to language through class settings. tiʔ kʷu tiʔ x̌ilx is meeting this need by offering online beginner classes and creating resources to aid in engaging language in the home.
Continuing Education
Due to Covid-19 all efforts have been moved to an online format. NEW COMMUNITY CLASS STARTING BEGINNING NOVEMBER. Our staff have been increasing their language through classes and will transition into teaching classes and facilitating online groups in nsyilxcn.
Materials and Resources
Materials to have available for download and application throughout your home. Our team is working on content to bring language into the home to assist with natural transmission between adults, parents to children. Connecting our generations through language transmission. Due to Covid-19 this will be a year of materials and resource development.
Implementing nsyilxcn in the Home
By empowering our parents and families to become the facilitators for their children in the home, language in the home is increasing. Parents are encouraged to attend our online classes and utilize resources and materials being created for in the home.
“the class was safe , comfortable and I feel/ know that I have learned a great deal. Being part of the class has helped me gain confidence and wanting to learn more language. My goal is to become a stronger speaker. I know that in the future I will sign up for any class offered. I appreciate and value what I have learned, and really want to carry on”
